The basics to any class, child or adult is PCP. PCP stands for praise correction praise.
Here at the JJBBA this is one of the first things taught to our ever growing Assistant Instructor Team.
To connect with a child you have to have good rapport with them and to have good rapport with them you have to listen.
A lot of parents expect me to shout at their child until the child learns discipline however a child does not learn from someone they do not respect. What I would expect from a Instructor is for them to listen and be listened to. I am sure you have had the experience of listening to someone and then when you speak they talk over to you and you are then lead to feel, “if they aren’t listening to me why should I listen to them?” and being a instructor is no different to that.
They say we have two ears and one mouth for a reason and that you will never learn anything new listening to your own voice. When a new child comes along for a free lesson or a experienced member comes for their 100th lesson, they will always feel valued and listened to.
Once that connection is established then we can start to look at helping children or adults improve their habits that form their character.
Our Kids Karate classes are then geared around being the best. NOT better than everyone else but being the BEST version of you, that you can be!!
Maslow’s Hierarchy Of Needs
desire to become the most that you can be.
respect, self-esteem, status, recognition, strength, freedom.
Love and Belonging
friendship, intimacy, family, sense of connection.
personal security, employment, resources, health, property.
air, water, food, shelter, sleep, clothing, reproduction.
IF YOU IMAGINE THIS AS A PYRAMID WITH THE BOTTOM BEING ‘PHYSIOLOGICAL NEEDS’ AND THE BUILDING BLOCK FOR THE REST YOU CAN SEE THE ORDER IN WHICH WE AS HUMANS OPERATE.
The JJBBA Group structure their education and delivery of material around personal development. When you apply this to a children’s class you see that if a child doesn’t feel safe they will not learn and they cling to what makes them feel safe (normally a parent). As you can see from Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs to feel safe is the second most important level. Once a child or any human for that matter feels safe, we then have to make sure they feel like they belong.
This is where our fantastic Team comes into play. Tony, Danielle and myself have worked with in the industry for over 18 years and love meeting and working with new members of the community.
We then have a extensive Assistant Instructor Team dressed in Blue. Beyond that we also have additional certified Instructor members who help support JJBBA Nottingham.
With this unstoppable team of dedicated members we will achieve great things for your child and make sure they reach the top of all our needs which is Self actualisation.
Choose Martial Arts NOW!
Did you know that Martial Arts is 10 times better than Team Sports in developing a child’s self esteem and confidence?
We have trained thousands of children in the 35 plus years since we were established.
Parents bring their children to us for many reasons, sometimes the children themselves want to be Karate kids or a Power Ranger and that’s great because they will develop tremendous physical skills.
But as a parents you want much more than that for your child, you want a child who:
exudes confidence and self discipline.
knows how to behave in public.
is not afraid or intimidated by bullies.
has the confidence to speak his/her mind and does not succumb to peer pressure.
We have broad experience with children of all types, skills and abilities from the very gifted to those with challenges to overcome. We have experience with conditions such as ADHD, Aspergers, Autism, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Epilepsy, Asthma, Anger problems, Shyness, as well as those who may be overly boisterous or whose behaviour is causing problems at home or at school.
My personal opinion is that we all have different characters and we all process information differently. I believe that if your child can walk and talk they do not have “Learning Difficulties”. If your child is at school and is not keeping up with their peers, 90% of the time it isn’t their fault, they just learn differently. Imagine going to learn something new and the teacher/instructor speaks Icelandic. You are going to be in for a tough time if you do not understand that language.
There are three main learning types.
If I only teach in one style then only the children with that style of learning will benefit and the other 2 will find it a lot harder, NOT IMPOSSIBLE, but they certainly won’t have it as easy as a listener being taught in a audible fashion. Which takes me back to my first point, if the class isn’t being taught in your language (learning style) you are going to find it very difficult!
Here at the JJBBA we understand this so if your child learns in a different manner we at all times deliver this to all our students so that they can get the most from every class and with our outcome based programmes you will never pay more for a programme that your child is working on even if they need a extra lesson to make it to that next belt.
Bullying – We Have The Cure
Bullying is a major concern today for parents and teachers. It can range from occasional intimidation to a regime of violence; often children will blame themselves and even parents and teachers can be powerless to end the trauma that a child can be subjected to. With martial arts training we can help to end the nightmare and bring the bullying to an end, often without resorting to physical violence. No responsible parent wants their child to learn to sort their problems out using violence but neither do they want their child to suffer at the hands of another. With our training your child will become ‘bully-proof’; that is they will exude a new confidence and self respect that projects outwardly so that bullies no longer view them as an easy target. Our programs will help your child grow into a responsible adult aware of the needs of others and with the discipline and self control to make their own way in the world without having their lives made a living hell by another individual just because they are bigger and stronger.
Every parent is keenly aware of the dangers of child abduction. The media swings into action each time a child goes missing for a few hours and rightly so. We can all remember occasions where the abduction of a child has led to tragedy yet we cannot keep our children with us all the time. The only answer is to equip your child with the skills and knowledge to protect them from potential abductors. In our schools we teach children how to recognise the 10 different approaches that abductors use to trick children away from their parents and the 3 keys that abductors need to set their plans into motion. We teach children strategies of escape, evasion and avoidance to ensure their safety. Armed with this knowledge reinforced through practice you can be as certain as is possible that your child has the knowledge they need to protect themselves from the real danger of abduction
